I’m suspicious of aeroplanes and boats make me ill – that leaves me to discover the world by train. That’s why I’m always disappointed whenever a night train is scrapped. Not least because I love to write and explore new ideas on long journeys, which I’ve been doing now for over a decade for various print and online publications.
Whether it’s new foods, cultures or countries, I love discovering and trying out new things and then telling people about it. Also, as a seasoned commuter and newbie to SBB, there’s lots to explore. Read all about my experiences here on the blog.
I’m a spokesperson for passenger transport, and often reveal what’s going on behind the scenes at SBB. In my free time I like finding new hiking routes and running down balls on the tennis court.
For me, travelling means freedom. Daydreaming is easiest when I’m staring out of the train window. I go wherever I feel drawn to, mainly to see people, out into the countryside or right to the heart of the cities. The best stories are written about life on the move. My passion is to tell them to you – with words and pictures.
My mother’s tireless campaign against dull Mondays probably had a profound effect on my life. We would ride around on public transport until I was tired but contented. I still love riding around in the same way today, particularly since claiming my space at the very front of the locomotives that are 1,000 to 10,000 times heavier than I am. Being an engine driver gives you a unique perspective, and I am delighted to be able to share my experiences with you!
My name is Helga and I blog at Travelstory.ch about the most colourful places in Switzerland. My ideal trips involve travelling in the Swiss mountains, meandering through old towns, dreaming that I’m a princess in castles and fortresses, rambling through rose gardens and savouring sunsets by lakes. I always keep my camera with me so that I can capture the most beautiful moments and share them with you.
I’ve got the train bug badly. As a kid I ran away from snorting steam locomotives – later it was me running after them. I began my journey with SBB 25 years ago: I sold tickets, advised passengers, then maintained sbb.ch for a decade, and in 2011 set a course for social media.

I’ve become hooked on this social media stuff. It all began with my stay abroad in Hong Kong in early 2006. I started my first blog shortly thereafter. And I’ve not yet re-emerged from the world of social media, because I feel quite comfortable and at ease here.
